SGReflect is an Educational Service and Consultancy Start-up (UEN53445214X). It was established by Singaporean Science Educator, Dr Tan Kok Siang, to:
Dr Tan Kok Siang is a retired Science Teacher Educator (2000–2021, NIE/NTU) and a former school science teacher (1989–2000). Before joining the educational service in 1989, he spent several years working as a chemist in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. He remains active as a Ministry of Education (MOE)‑registered Flexi‑Adjunct Teacher (FAJT) in Singapore schools, while also leading international STEM and Science educational enrichment programmes. In addition, he serves as a specialist consultant in various science teacher professional development projects and events both locally and internationally.
Practising scientists, technologists, educators, and researchers are all reflective learners. Students who are more inclined to reflect are typically more innovative, productive, and effective in problem‑solving and designing solutions in school science tasks. This observation is supported by various studies in the literature, including Kok Siang’s doctoral research (Tan, 2009) and more recent presentations (Tan, 2026a; Tan, 2026b).
In today’s era of design‑based thinking and rapidly advancing artificial intelligence, cultivating a habit of reflective learning is more important than ever (Tan, 2026b). It equips learners to critically evaluate ideas, adapt to disruption, and apply creativity responsibly in both academic and real‑world contexts.
The name SGReflect was therefore chosen to embody and advance the purpose of this start‑up initiative.
