About Us

SGReflect is an Educational Service and Consultancy Start-up (UEN53445214X).  It is established by Singaporean Science Educator, Dr Tan Kok Siang, (i) to promote Reflective Learning as a habit of learning among school students, (ii)  to provide pedagogical and learning support and services to schools, (iii) to help students, their parents and teachers, on academic and enrichment learning in School Science & STEM Learning, and (iv) to encourage young learners to start preparing to be competent in learning-thinking skills needed in the Future-of-Work.

SGReflect Tutorial and Enrichment Learning Centre is the supporting operational unit of SGReflect. The Centre's focus is on teaching and learning, and conducts tutorial and enrichment sessions (w.r.t. school science) for students, parents and teachers [UEN53452146X]

# Kok Siang is a retired Science Teacher Educator (2000-2021, NIE/NTU) and a former school science teacher (1989-2000). He had also worked a few years as a chemist in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. He is still an active classroom-laboratory teacher practitioner.

About the name "SGReflect"

  1. Practising scientists, technologists, educators, researchers, etc. are all reflective learners
  2. Students who are “more-inclined-to-reflect” are usually more  innovative, productive and effective in problem-solving and designing solutions in school science tasks [based on various research in the literature, including Kok Siang’s doctoral research (Tan, 2009)]
  3. Hence, the name, SGReflect, is selected to support the purpose of this start-up initiative (see above)
