1. Examiners do not set questions to trick students or with an intention to make the assessment tasks tough for them. Their goal is to gather evidence of a candidate's performance and readiness for the next learning stage.
2. Examiners employ creativity and innovation in task creation, drawing inspiration from diverse sources, including past examination questions, articles, websites, and advertisements. They use various methods to assess a candidate's grasp and application of learned concepts, and these methods can be applied to test a range of different concepts.
3. Students can develop into creative, divergent learners and critical, convergent thinkers, much like the examiners. They can explore possibilities and alternatives while also identifying valid information and reliable processes when attempting assessment-related tasks that align with the three IN's in the revised Science Curriculum (MOE, 2023).
4. The Think-Like-an-Examinar sessions, however, are not about spotting questions, employing response strategies to score the highest marks, or second-guessing examiners' mark scheme.
5. All sessions will be personally facilitated by Dr. Tan Kok Siang, who will serve as the Thinking Coach for the students.
6. Dr. Tan Kok Siang's biography can be found in these links: Link 1 & Link 2
1. Each session will be 90-min in duration, and in a small class (3 pax for now).
2. Students will work on assessment-related questions and be guided on how to respond to these questions using various divergent learning and convergent thinking skills and strategies.
3. They will then discuss as a group on how to improve on their responses as well as how the questions may be asked differently.
